2021年4月，河北沧州一卡车司机在路过唐山市丰润区超限站时，被以车载北斗终端掉线为由处以扣车和2000元罚款，该司机表示无法得知终端是否掉线，且或因无法接受处罚，此后服用农药自杀身亡[115]，事件引发社会关注[116]。《人民日报》等媒体报道事件时解释强调，事件非北斗卫星故障，需坚决遏制商家以北斗系统之名炒作自家导航工具，不让北斗卫星为“北斗产品”故障背锅[117]，并需加强定位装置与平台的质量管控，完善相关处罚的行政复议机制、数据可视化[118]，以及关爱货车司机的心理健康状况[116]。
